Robert John Nixon was born in Maryland on February 26, 1947. His family later moved to Malvern, Pennsylvania.

PFC Nixon was one of thirteen soldiers killed on November 23, 1968 in an engagement in the Boi Loi Woods in Tay Ninh Province approximately 12 kilometers north-northwest of Go Dau Ha. He was serving with C Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry.

Robert was survived by his mother, wife and son. Funeral services were held in Malvern on December 4th, 1968.
