Oscar L. Waddell was born on June 1, 1925 to Harry and Myrtle Waddell who lived in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of three children.
Oscar entered service in the Army on June 17, 1943. He was assigned to serve with the 13th infantry regiment, 8th infantry division. After completion of training he was sent overseas to the European Theater of Operations to Belfast, Northern Ireland in June, 1944. The 8th infantry went ashore at the Normandy Beach head on July 4, 1944, and entered combat July 7th. They fought across France and into Germany. At some point, Oscar was wounded, but recovered and returned to the front lines. Private First Class Oscar L. Waddell was killed in action on January 25, 1945, in Germany.
Oscar is buried at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Belgium.
