Joshua B. Walton was born in December 25, 1921 to Clifton and Eleanor Walton of Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Joshua was the second youngest of four children. His father was a contractor.
Joshua enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After basic training and advanced training he was assigned as a gunner to serve with the 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Groups (Heavy). His Squadron flew bombing missions from Guadalcanal, and later from New Georgia Island. In March 1945 Joshua’s Squadron was moved to Samar in the Philippines.
On January 27, 1946, Sergeant
Joshua B. Walton died in service.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart, and is memorialized on the
Tablets of the Missing In Action at the Manila American Cemetery at Fort Bonifacio.
