Walter Alponso Price was born on December 23, 1913 to Walter and Esther Price who lived in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Walter was one of three children. His father worked as a mechanic.
Walter was a student at Downingtown public schools. He was very popular among his friends and associates.
Walter entered service in the Army on July 28, 1941. He received basic training at Fort Meade and at Aberdeen Proving Ground. After training, Walter was sent to California. In March, 1942 he departed for Hawaii and the Pacific war zone. Walter served with the 632nd Ordnance Ammunition Company.
Private Walter Alponso Price was Killed In Action on April 1, 1945, the first day of the landings on Okinawa.His sister Mary received the dreaded telegram informing his family of his death. Walter is buried at the Honolulu Memorial in Hawaii.
