Gary L. Dempsey was born on November 15, 1948 in New Castle County, Delaware. 

Gary was a platoon leader in Company A, 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment. He started his tour September 13, 1969.

Second Lieutenant Gary L. Dempsey was killed on January 1, 1970, while on a combat operation in Binh Dinh Province.

Gary is buried at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square.
