Conover, Raymond J

Raymond Jerome Conover was born on February 18, 1915 to William and Ida Conover who lived in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. Raymond had one younger sister named Mary. His father was a laborer on a farm.

Raymond married Mary Marguerite Adams on March 19, 1936. He worked for Lukens Steele

Raymond entered service in the Army on April 7, 1943. He received training at Camp Blanding, Florida with an infantry unit. He received a rifleman’s medal. After training, Raymond served with Company F, 205th Battalion, 63rd Regiment.

On June 11, 1945 his wife, Mary, received the dreaded telegram that her husband had been killed.

Private Raymond Jerome Conover was killed in action in Germany on April 11, 1945.

In 1949 Raymond was brought home for burial. Funeral serves were held on July 21, 1949 at the Archie S. MacLean Funeral Home. Interment was at the Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery.

Raymond was survived by his wife, Mary, and their son, Claude.

Raymond was a distant relative of Wilbur Conover who also gave his life in service to his country.
