Ebersole, Richard A

Richard Ebersole was born on February 18, 1922 to Harvey and Erma Ebersole who lived in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Richard was the second of four children His father worked as an inspector for the railroad.

Richard graduated from the Chambersburg High school, Class of 1938. Richards’s family lived in Chambersburg until 1940, after which they moved to St. Davids and later Narberth, and assumingly at some point lived in Chester County.

Richard enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 24, 1942. He received his basic training in the Tenth Separate Recruit Battalion, at New River, North Carolina.

Richard was Killed In Action on November 13, 1943 on Bougainville Island in the Solomons the first day of the amphibious assault on the heavy defended Japanese island by the 6th Marine Division. He is buried at Fort McKinley Cemetery in the Philippines.
